2004 Olympic Trials long jump champion; 2000 Olympic 100m, 200m & 4x400m champ, bronze medal in LJ and 4x100m; 2-time World 100m champion (‘97, ‘99); 2-time World 4x100m champion (‘97, ‘01); 2001 World 200m gold medalist; 13-time U.S. Outdoor Champion (4 in LJ, 4 in 100, 5 in 200); 2002 U.S. Champion (100m & 200m); 1999 World LJ bronze medalist; 2002 World Cup 100m gold medallist.
Jones returns to competition after giving birth to her first child in June 2003… After becoming the first female track and field athlete to win five medals at a single Olympics in Sydney - gold in the 100m, 200m and 4x400m relay, and bronze in the long jump and 4x100 relay, Jones added new hardware to her resume in 2001 with her first 200m world title and second 4x100m crown…Never lost in high school competition after her freshman year, and she holds the national high school record in the 200 meters…when she graduated from high school she was #2 on both the 100 and LJ all-time lists. She says that the 2008 Games in Beijing will be her last Olympics…on giving birth to her son Tim Montgomery Jr. on June 28, 2003, Jones said, "I am so happy. This is the greatest thing that has ever happened to me. He's a beautiful baby and Tim (father Tim Montgomery) and I could not be more excited." Jones won the USATF Jesse Owens Award in 1997, 1998 & 2002.
2004: 1st at Olympic Trials in LJ (7.11m/23-4), 4th in 100m (11.14), withdrew after 1st round of 200m…5th in LJ at Olympic Games (6.84m/22-5.25)…dnf in Olympic 4x100m relay final…1st in 100m (10.99w) & LJ (7.13m/23-4.75w) at Home Depot…1st in LJ (6.93m/22-9) & 5th in 100m (11.12) at Nike Prefontaine Classic …1st in 60m at Verizon Millrose Games (7.21i)… 1st in LJ at Birmingham (6.75m/22-1.75i)…1st in 100m (11.04) & LJ (6.74m/22-1.5) at Kingston…2nd in 60m at Birmingham (7.16i).
2003: Did not compete…gave birth to son Tim Montgomery on Saturday, June 28.
2002: USA 100m champ (11.01)…USA 200m champ (22.35)…won World Cup 100m in 10.90, which completed the first undefeated season of her career… ranked #1 in the world at 100m & 200m by T&FN…bests of 10.84AL & 22.11WL.
2001: World 200m champion (22.39)… ran anchor in gold medal winning 4x100m relay at Worlds…2nd in 100m at World Outdoors (10.85) … USA Outdoor 200m champ (22.52), her fourth consecutive U.S. title in the event…ran world-leading time of 22.23 in semis of U.S. Outdoor 200m…ranked #1 in the world (#1 U.S.) at both 100m and 200m by T&FN… bests of 10.84 and 22.23.
2000: Won Olympic gold in the 100m (10.75) 200m (21.84) and 4x400m relay (3rd leg), and Olympic bronze in the LJ (6.92m/22-8.5) and 4x100m (4th leg)...won 100, 200 and long jump at Olympic Trials (10.88, 21.94 and 7.02m/23-0.5)... ranked #1 in 100, 200 in world and U.S., #1 in the U.S. in the LJ and # 4 in U.S. in 400 and #4 in LJ in world by T&FN.
