At 6-3 and 210 pounds he is one of the biggest sprinters in the world. He is a self-confessed slow starter but is one of the best 4X100 relay anchor runners in the world…A rolling start gets Johnson’s momentum in top gear, and he used that momentum to anchor Team USA to a come-from-behind 4X100m victory at the 2003 World Championships… He attended four different schools during his collegiate career where he participated in sports other than track and field. From 1994-95, Johnson attended Grayson Community College where he played basketball. He continued his hoops career at Eastfield Junior College during the 1995-96 season. He later played football at Texas A&M (Kingsville) during the 1996-97 campaign, and then transferred to Panhandle State in Oklahoma where he finished his gridiron career. He decided to try track and field after leaving college, and after asking family and friends for advice, he asked Coach Nicholson Scott, Jr., to train him. Scott told the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram that training a raw talent like Johnson was a treat. “I’ve never seen anything like it,” he said. “This is so unreal. Nobody has touched this kid. It’s refreshing to talk to a guy that asks questions.” … Although he’s new to the sport, Johnson believes he is ready to take on the world of big time track and field. “I like the challenge,” he said. “I believe that if you put your mind to it, you can do it. I want to dominate the track world, physically and mentally.” …married wife Nikki, an assistant bank manager, in March 2001…left U.S. on first international trip (a meet in Glasgow, Scotland on July 1, 2000) one day after receiving his first passport…improved his 100m PR 15-hundredths of a second to 9.95 in 2002.

2004: 5th at Olympic Trials (20.28)… ranked #8 world (#4 U.S.) at 200m, (11 U.S. in 100m…bests of 10.11 & 20.28.

2003: World Outdoor 4x100m relay gold medalist (anchor leg 38.06)… ranked #3 in the world at 200m (#3 U.S.) by T&FN.

2002: 4th in 100m at USA Outdoors (10.10w)…3rd in opening round at USA Indoors (6.63)….2nd at Millrose Games (6.55)…ranked #6 in U.S. at 100m…best of 9.95.

2001: Ran anchor leg on opening round 4x100m relay to earn a gold medal at World Outdoor Championships…bronze medalist at Goodwill Games 200m (20.54)…7th in 100m at USA Outdoor Championships (10.24)…ranked #7 in the world, #4 in U.S. in 200m by T&FN
