The most decorated student-athlete from the University of Texas-San Antonio, Byrd finished his career as a three-time All-American in the 400m. He owns the school record in the 200m (21.98) and 400m (47.09) indoors, as well as the 400m (44.88) outdoors. He also shares in four relay records, 4x100 (indoors & outdoors), 4x400 (outdoors) and 1600m sprint medley relay. The four-time Southland Conference Champion (1994-97) while at UTSA, Byrd returned as an assistant coach for a season in 2000. He has since relocated to Raleigh, N.C. to train full time with George Williams, with a group that includes Jerome Young, LaTasha Colander-Richardson and Michelle Collins. He earned his degree in interdisciplinary studies in 1998…Byrd’s 44.45 PR at Belem was the fastest time by an American in 2002.
