2001 World Outdoor 4x400m relay gold medalist…2001 USA Outdoor runner-up.

The most decorated student-athlete from the University of Texas-San Antonio, Byrd finished his career as a three-time All-American in the 400m. He owns the school record in the 200m (21.98) and 400m (47.09) indoors, as well as the 400m (44.88) outdoors. He also shares in four relay records, 4x100 (indoors & outdoors), 4x400 (outdoors) and 1600m sprint medley relay. The four-time Southland Conference Champion (1994-97) while at UTSA, Byrd returned as an assistant coach for a season in 2000. He has since relocated to Raleigh, N.C. to train full time with George Williams, with a group that includes Jerome Young, LaTasha Colander-Richardson and Michelle Collins. He earned his degree in interdisciplinary studies in 1998…Byrd’s 44.45 PR at Belem was the fastest time by an American in 2002.

2004: 21st in prelims at Olympic Trials (46.11)…5th at Belem (45.76)…best of 45.76.

2003: 6th at USA Outdoors semifinal (46:04)…1st in race #2 in Madrid (45.08)…5th at IAAF Japan Grand Prix Outdoors 400m (45.98)…best of 45:08.

2002: 4th at USA Outdoors (45.28)…1st at Belem (44.45PR)…2nd in prelim at Rethymnon (44.80)…2nd at Stockholm (44.82)…3rd at Rome (45.12)…1st at Madrid (45.36)…teamed with James Carter, Godfrey Herring and Antonio Pettigrew to place 2nd at World Cup 4x400m relay (2:59.21)…ranked #5 in the world, #2 in U.S. by T&FN…best of 44.45PR, AL.

2001: Ran lead leg on World Outdoor Champs 4x400m relay gold medal-winning team (2:57.54)…runner-up at USA Outdoors 400m (45.26)…3rd at Goodwill Games (45.56)…clocked 45.11 in 400m prelims at USA Outdoors…4th in semifinal at World Outdoors (45.39)…6th at USA Indoors (46.78)…5th at adidas Golden Spike Invitational (48.33)…ranked #7 in world & #2 U.S. by T&FN…best of 44.83 in Milan.
