5th at 2004 Olympic Trials; NCAA All-American for ISU; 4th in shot put at 2002 USA Outdoor Championships; 7th at USA Indoor Championships; 2nd at 1999 Pan American Games.
A two-time Iowa prep shot put champion, Beyer as a senior won the shot put, took second in the discus and fifth in the high jump in his class at the state championships…had a prep discus best of 54.72m/179-6…the 1994 Drake Relays prep discus champ and 1995 Drake shot put champion, Beyer also earned all-state honors in basketball and academic all-state honors in football and basketball…in his first international competition, Beyer placed second at the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada to fellow American Brad Mears. His coach Dan O’Mara believes Beyer can be one of the nation’s best. “He’s just scratching the surface of his abilities,” he said. “He’s a great athlete with great explosiveness. If he wants it, he could be in the top three in the U.S. some day. And, if you’re in the top three in this country, you’re pretty close to the top four or five in the world.” Beyer has trained with Andy Bloom at the USOC Training Center in Chula Vista, Calif. Beyer was a construction engineering major at Iowa State.
