Todd Sutherland Todd Sutherland, 44, Lawrence, is chairman and CEO of University National Bank. He also serves on the board of trustees of Bishop Seabury Academy. And he has been the campaign finance committee of former State Treasurer Tim Shallenburger.

Sutherland has also taken part as a board member in the Mercy Ships missionary program, accompanying medical professionals who donate their time to perform surgery on people in Africa who otherwise would not be able to get it.

Sutherland's father, Dwight, graduated from KU. ... Sutherland has been a member of many KU organizations, including serving as president of the KU Basketball Roundball Club in 1992.
Sutherland's father, KU alum Dwight Sutherland, funded the KUMC team's trip, where the five doctors and nurses are stationed on the ship Anastasis. The ship, at 522 feet long, is the world's largest non-governmental hospital ship.

Dwight Sutherland is the founder of Sutherland Lumber, based in Kansas City. His family also helped found KUMC's Todd L. Sutherland Microsurgical Center and the Sutherland Institute for Facial Rehabilitation.

Todd Sutherland was born with a cleft palate, and the missions to Africa allow Kansas doctors to correct cleft palates, tumors and other deformities.

A local businessman who has served on many KU-related committees, but otherwise has few sports ties.
Sutherland graduated cum laude in 1981 from Washington & Lee University, Lexington, Va., and has made banking his career since that time.

He worked in the trust department at First National Bank, Kansas City, Mo., from 1981-1983.

From there, he became assistant vice president, CharterCorp, Kansas City, Mo., where he worked until 1985. Sutherland then was was vice president of Boatmen's Bancshares, St. Louis, Mo., until 1986.

From 1987 through November 1988, he was the organizer for the Savings Bank of Lawrence (now University National Bank), which was the only Lawrence-based savings institution at the time. Sutherland headed a 10-member investment group to begin the bank, which is at 15th and Kasold.

Those invovled in the startup banking venture included Sam D. Campbell, Tim B. Fritzel, Monte C. Johnson (former KU athletic director), Dolph Simons III, Gary L. Sollars, John T. Stewart IV and Richard L. Zinn.

Sutherland is also involved in the following organizations: Salvation Army board, finance chairman; Lawrence Chamber of Commerce health insurance taske force and board of directors; Center for Research, Inc., trustee; Campaign Kansas (member of Medical Center, Lawrence Campaign and Campaign for Athletics committees); KU Alumni Association's Capital Needs Task Force; KU's 75th Anniversary Committeee (1990-91); Swarthout Society board (1991-92); Lawrence Rotary Club; Douglas County Development Inc., board of directors; KU Basketball Roundball Club, president (1992); KU business school advisory board.
