Mike Maddox
FORMER KU BASKETBALL PLAYER (Odds)

Mike Maddox Maddox, a reserve his first three years as a Jayhawk, started 34 games for KU in its run to the national title game in the 1990-91 season.

The 6-foot-7 forward from Oklahoma City averaged 7.4 points and 3.2 rebounds per game in his final season. He was 10th in the conference in field-goal percentage, shooting 52.6 percent from the field. Maddox, an academic all-Big Eight team member, also played on the Big Eight Select team in Spain in the summer of 1990.

As a junior, Maddox was named captain of the UPI Big Eight All-Bench team after playing in 34 of KU's 35 games as the Jayhawks' sixth man (he missed the Tennessee-Martin game because of a bruised thigh). Maddox averaged 8.7 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, was second on the team with 19 blocked shots and shot 57.1 percent from the field.

Won a national title with KU in 1988 as a freshman. ... Made the national championship game as a senior in 1991.
Maddox played on the 1989 Big Eight Select team, coached by then-KU coach Roy Williams, between his sophomore and junior seasons. As a sophomore, Maddox was used as a reserve before starting the Jayhawks' final nine games. He averaged 10.9 points and 3.5 rebounds per game and was seventh in the Big Eight with a field-goal percentage of 57.5 in conference games. Maddox also excelled in the classroom as one of six Jayhawks who earned a 3.0 grade-point average or better in the 1989 spring semester.

Is apparently stumping for the job behind the scenes, but probably is further down the list than most other candidates.
After winning a national title his freshman season, Maddox played in the U.S. Olympic Festival during the summer of 1988. He had won a gold medal as a member of the North squad at the 1987 U.S. Olympic Sports Festival.

As a freshman, Maddox played in 24 games as a reserve and led the team in fewest turnovers per minute. He had a career-high 12 points and five rebounds in the Big Eight Conference tournament semifinals against Kansas State.

Maddox averaged 25.6 points and 10.1 rebounds per game as a senior at Putnam North High School in Oklahoma City. His 23 points-per-game average in three seasons was a Oklahoma high school record when Maddox graduated in 1987. He earned numerous honors as a senior, including the Oklahoma prep player of the year award, being named the AAU, Converse and McDonalds All-American teams.

Maddox, who was a color commentator for men's basketball games on Sunflower Channel 6, is now the community bank president of Intrust Bank in Lawrence.
