KANSAS SENIOR ASSOCIATE ATHLETIC DIRECTOR (Odds)

Richard Konzem, a University of Kansas graduate, is in his 22nd year on the staff of Kansas and his first year as senior associate athletics director. Konzem serves as sport supervisor for football, men's and women's basketball and baseball. In addition, the Williams Educational Fund, ticket office and events and facilities staff are also his responsiblity.

Earned bachelor's degree from Kansas in 1980. ... Been a staff member of the KU athletics department for 22 years.

A native of Salina, Kan., Konzem graduated from the University of Kansas in 1980 with a bachelor of science degree in business while serving as manager of the KU track and field team under Coach Bob Timmons.

He continuted his education at the University of Southern California, where he recieved his master's degree in athletic administration in 1983. Konzem worked in the USC athletic department in fund-raising, promotions and game management.

There's a definite pro-Konzem faction at KU, but he has already been passed over for the position once. Will he get it the second time around?

Konzem returned to Kansas in 1981 and spent seven years in the Williams Educational Fund as assistant director and then director. He also served eight years as the department's NCAA rules compliance coordinator and one year as ticket manager. Konzem served as interim AD during the summer of 2001. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the Kansas Sports Hall of Fame and the Sunflower State Games as well as the City of Lawrence Parks and Recreation Advisory Board.

Konzem (born Dec. 27, 1957) is married to the former Debbie Vignatelli and has two children, a son, Scott, and a doughter, Sally.
