Mike Carter
ORAL ROBERTS UNIVERSITY ATHLETIC DIRECTOR (Odds)

Mike Carter Mike Carter, ORU's athletic director since 1994, reportedly was on campus June 6 to speak to KU officials about the position.

Early the morning of June 8, Carter told the Tulsa World he had withdrawn his name from consideration to replace Al Bohl.

One source indicated Saturday that Carter was KU's pick to replace Bohl, leading to speculation.

Worked with new KU coach Bill Self at ORU and is believed to know KU football coach Mark Mangino.
The night of June 7, KU Chancellor Robert Hemenway would not talk about any specific candidates. "We obviously have talked to several people in this process, and I do think it's fair to say we are coming closer to decision-time, but we have not chosen an athletic director yet," Hemenway said. "I can say unequivocally an athletic director has not been chosen. We have not reached a final understanding with anybody. We are making progress in the search."

Has withdrawn from the running.
Carter, a 1970 Oklahoma State graduate, was working as a lawyer with no previous AD experience when he took the ORU position Nov. 7, 1994. He engineered the Eagles' entry into the Mid-Continent Conference in 1997. Carter worked at ORU the final three years of new KU coach Bill Self's reign as ORU basketball coach. It is believed KU football coach Mark Mangino also knows Carter, who was born in Pawhuska, Okla.
