Like his buddy, Billy Gillispie, Kansas University coach Bill Self would accept an oral commitment from an eighth-grade basketball player. “I would take Lew Alcindor. I’d take Wilt, Danny and Lew,” Self said of former UCLA phenom Alcindor (later Kareem Abdul-Jabbar) as well as KU greats Danny Manning and Wilt Chamberlain, whose exploits as players were well-known early in their stages of development. 2010 prospect Woolridge commits to KU

Royce Woolridge, a 6-2 sophomore guard from Sunnyslope High in Phoenix, Ariz., made his verbal commitment to play basketball at Kansas University official in a news conference held at his school. Woolridge, the son of former NBA player Orlando Woolridge, becomes KU's first known commitment beyond the 2008 class. "Kansas is where I want to go, Kansas is the best fit for me," Woolridge said Thursday from his high school. Read more.

Even bad news from the dentist couldn’t wipe the smile off Tyshawn Taylor’s face Tuesday afternoon. “I need a root canal,” Taylor, a 6-foot-3 senior point guard from St. Anthony High in Jersey City, N.J., said in a phone interview from the doctor’s office to discuss his decision to commit orally to play basketball at Kansas University. “Except for that, I’m really happy.” Read more.
