Citta carries KU baseball to 13-3 win over West Virginia

Brendt Citta went 3-for-5 with two home runs, a double, five RBIs and three runs scored to lead the Kansas baseball team to a 13-3 victory over West Virginia on Saturday at Hoglund Ballpark.

Citta sent a double down the left field line to give the Jayhawks their first lead and 3-2, and he was just getting started. The redshirt sophomore hit two-run blasts in the sixth and seventh innings to highlight the Jayhawks’ 17-hit attack.

Devin Foyle had a productive day in front of Citta in the cleanup spot, as he went 3-for-4 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Owen Taylor joined Citta and Foyle in having a three-hit game. Brett Vosik and James Cosentino added a pair of base knocks to round out the Jayhawks who had at least two hits. Vosik also had two RBIs.

Ryan Zeferjahn shut down the West Virginia offense with seven innings of two-run ball. The Topeka Seaman product scattered six hits while striking out eight and only walking one.

The Jayhawks (21-25, 4-12) will try to take the series in the rubber match at noon Sunday at Hoglund Ballpark.
