David Mitchell's preseason take: Floodman started the final two games of his freshman season and made 25 tackles against Iowa State and Wyoming. He was poised for a breakout sophomore season when he had eight tackles in the first half of in last year's season opener, but an ACL injury sidelined him for the rest of the year. Floodman has come back bigger, stronger and says the knee injury hasn't slowed him. Strength coach Chris Dawson calls the Wichita Collegiate product KU's most competitive player. His teammates obviously noticed his hard work in rehab and offseason workouts. When was the last time a sophomore who had played in only a dozen games with three starts was named a team captain?
