David Mitchell's preseason take: Kansas coaches sent a clear message to the junior by signing Tulsa Union kicker Scott Webb in February. Beck was fantastic as a freshman when he made 9-of-12 field-goal attempts over 40 yards, including both of his 50-plus yard attempts. He also made 16-of-17 PATS. But he missed eight straight field goals during one stretch last year and finished 7-of-17. Beck appeared to revert to his freshman form during the spring, but if he struggles this fall don't expect coach Mark Mangino to stick with him through a long drought like he did in 2002.
