The dimunitive Derek Mills might not look like a typical wide out, but what he lacks in height he more than makes up for with speed, agility and experience. In addition to pass-catching, Mills also handles the Jayhawks' kick returns, and will also run the ball on rare occasions. Mills is a two-time Jayhawk Scholar and is active in community youth organizations and reading programs.

Last year:
Mills pulled in 16 receptions for 268 yards and a team-high three touchdowns as a reserve. He saw action in nine games with two starting assignments. His best games included five catches for 72 yards and a TD vs. Southwest Missouri State, and three receptions for 70 yards and a TD against Missouri. His 41-yard hook and ladder catch against Texas Tech helped set up the tying TD to send the game into overtime which led to an eventual KU victory. Had a 43-yard TD reception against Southwest Missouri State and a 41-yard TD reception against Missouri. Mills averaged 13.3 yards on seven kickoff returns, and also had 21 yards on six rushing attempts.
