By his own admission, and that of the coaching staff, Letourneau is not the most gifted athlete on the team. What he is, however, is smart. Coach Mangino calls the six-time Jayhawk scholar the quarterback of his defense. Jayhawk coaches also call him an aggressive performer with outstanding speed

Letourneau started all 11 games at strong safety and led the secondary in total tackles, 87, which ranked third overall on the defensive unit. His 59 solo tackles tied for second best on the team. He also recorded a pair of pass interceptions and two tackles for losses. His career single-game best 16 tackles and one pass interception came against Colorado. Against Kansas State Letourneau recorded 12 tackles.
