The returning workhorse of the Jayhawks' offense, Reggie Duncan looks to lead Kansas' stable of backs in his third season. He has the power to plow through when hit and the speed to pull away when in the clear. Duncan enters the 2002 season hungry for more and has proven the most durable of KU's backs. "He really looks sharp," KU coach Mark Mangino said of Duncan. "He responds well to challenges, so we just pose one for him every day," Mangino said with a smile.
Last year:
Duncan led KU with 739 yards rushing last season, but the Killeen, Texas, product had a knack for getting into trouble off the field. Mangino said those days are over. "Reggie is doing everything we've asked him to do both on the field, in the classroom and in his personal life, so he's been on the right track and we're confident he'll stay on that track," Mangino said. Duncan started nine games, leading the team in rushing statistics with 739 yards on 181 attempts with three touchdowns (4.1 yards per carry, 73.9 per game). The Texas Tech game was when he really tore it up, piling 227 yards (seventh-best single-game mark in school history) on 38 carries, earning him conference co-offensive player of the week.
