Return to story* Paul Pierce (1996-1998). (Woodling, guard; Mayer and Bedore, bench). Paul Pierce is No. 5 on the KU all-time scoring chart, with 1,768 points.
Pierce was a consensus first-team All-American in 1998, joining teammate Raef LaFrentz for that honor. He was one of only four KU players to score 700 points in one season. Pierce left KU his junior to go pro, and was picked in the 10th round by the Boston Celtics. Before long he became the highest paid Jayhawk in NBA history with a long-term contract calling for more than $85 million.
