* Charlie Black, (1942-1943, 1946-1947) (Mayer, bench.) Black, a 6-4 1/2, 195-pound forward who was nicknamed the "Hawk" for his defense, was the only four-time All American in KU history. He w on All-American honors in 1942 after helping KU to tie for the Big Six conference title and advance to the NCAA Western Playoff. Black led the Jayhawks to a 10-0 season in 1943, averaging 11.4 points per game. He was one of Coach Phog Allen's "Iron Five" of 1943, which included Ray Evans, Otto Schnellbacher, John Buescher and Armand Dixon. Black left KU to fight in World War II as a P-38 reconnaissance pilot, then returned to KU in 1946 and helped the Jayhawks go 19-6 and return to the NCAA Playoffs.

Black spent one year with the Anderson Packers of the NBL before playing four years in the NBA with the Fort Wayne Pistons, the Indianapolis Jets and the Milwaukee Hawks.

Black's jersey was retired during the 1992 season. He died that same year at the age of 71.
