Return to story* Bill Hougland (Mayer, guard.) (1949-1952). KU's stats show Hougland, at 6-4 and 180, scored 452 points and had a 5.9 points per game average during his KU career. He was part of the 1952 national championship team. Although suffering from a leg injury, he pumped in five points and had six rebounds to help KU defeat St. John's 80-63. He also played on the 1952 and 1956 U.S. Olympic teams, earning the '56 spot as a star with the Phillips 66ers of AAU fame.
